My daughter made me do it.

My husband, Drew and I have been talking a long time about what we wanted to do when he re-retired. He had already retired from the Air Force ( of 21 years) and was waiting age wise to retire from the work force. We tossed around different ideas, even trying to find him a hobby he was interested in. He doesn't like to sit and do nothing, so it had to be something that would interest us both. A year before deciding, my counselor had suggested buying a small trailer and go traveling. Going camping every summer as a kid and traveling all over the world with Drew, I thought it was a good idea. I suggested this to Drew and he said no, we wouldn't be able to afford it. When Drew's work would not give him the time off to go to our family reunions, both sides, he decided to quit. I can't count the many times he would come home from work and show me a budget he had worked up to see how we could make it for the two months left on our lease on our apartment.  He was finally excited about something. Working the midnight shift for seven years was taking its toll on him. I was glad he was quitting, relieving him from some of the stress he was under. So guess what we're going to do? Yep, we're going to travel. Our children knew of our plans and I told them I was going to keep a journal and take pictures. My oldest daughter told me to make a blog. Okay....how? I gave her free rein and now I am committed to keeping you entertained with our travels.
We wanted to start out with a tent and all the camping gear, but our family reunion in July, showed us that it wouldn't work for us. I have numerous health issues which prevents me from being of much help to Drew. After trying to help put up a tent, I was so exhausted that I was in bed by 6:30 pm our first night out. Cooking was out of the question as I couldn't stand up very long. Maybe it was because we had too big of a tent, or it could have been trying to get up off of a mattress that slowly leaked all night and I had to practically get up off the floor, which was very hard on me. Whatever the reasons, I was glad we were going to try and find a tent pop-up to meet our needs. Needless to say, this plan didn't work out for us either. We couldn't afford what was out there. My niece had a 15' trailer she was selling, so we did a look see and in the end decided to buy it. We left Kansas City on Oct. 4, 2010 and that is really where our story begins.
